Choosing your baby's name can be one of the hardest decisions a new parent has to make. So why not be positive and think of it as a gift that will last a lifetime! Here' some useful things to consider before making the big decision:
1. Say the name outloud to see how it sounds (along with the surname - you dont want for example want to name your son Scot if his surname is Scotland - hard to believe but true!)
2. Think of how it might be shortened or used by other kids. You don't want to embarrass them now!
3. Remember that they will have their name through into adulthood too. So think - yes it may suit a lovely baby boy but what about a straping young man!
4. Unusual spellings of popular names can be a good way to put your spin on a classic. However bear in mind that a name that has unusual spelling doesn't sound any different, so when at school Abbey and Abi will probably both look up when the teacher calls!
5. What about copying celebrities? For every lovely celebrity baby name we hear though, there are the off-the-wall obscure names too! - Everyone has no doubt heard of the classic Heavenly Hiraana Tiger Lily but what about Audio Science, Blue Angel, God’iss Love Stone , and our personal crazy favourite Moon Unit! (All true!)
6. Most importantly if you have found a name you like - go with it! There will always be others with differing opinions, you can't please everyone!
